It’s been over a month since I left my job and time is ticking down. Since I left, I’ve spent two weeks in the Cascades (trip reports to follow) and summited Mt Shuksan and Mt Rainier.
I’ve received and sorted mounds of gear and decided against carrying more than the essentials. Dragging 50lb packs up two mountains gave me a much greater appreciation for packing light.
11 days and counting….

Just finished a crazy 70mile ride from home to a local state park that was probably 40+ miles of climbing (and steep, too). Threw 80 pounds of camping stuff, food, etc. onto my Long Haul Trucker (it’s like Goat Jr.) to see how it would handle the load.
In short, and like you, I learned a lot about what I will NOT be carrying. However, the bike was a trooper.
Next bikecamping trip is this weekend. 160+ miles. MUCH less gear.
STOKED for you!
